In 2002, Kellie Jones rented a small space for only four clients, after becoming
frustrated with the limitations of having to teach over-filled
Pilates classes.
She found that her small-group clients progressed much
faster, making them even more eager to continue with her classes, as they
quickly achieved their goals, often exceeding their own expectations.
Kellie also found that, to earn a living as a Pilates teacher, she
needed to be freelance and subsequently found herself teaching in a
number of different clubs, which soon reduced her job satisfaction and sense of
belonging to a team.
Thus, Kellie had her first dreams of running her own centre, based around a small-group philosophy.
In 2004, Kellie met Ellie Searle when she began attending her Pilates
classes. Ellie, a specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Pilates
Instructor, shared Kellie's vision of setting up her own centre, which
included a therapy clinic.
Only two years later, in 2006, Kellie took on
larger premises and Ellie began renting a room, from which to run a
part-time Physiotherapy Clinic, as well as her own Pilates classes.
By 2010, both had developed a loyal clientele but realised they were
rapidly out-growing their relatively modest building. The girls could
see that they needed to move to a new location in order to expand their
businesses, which led them to join forces.
Within a week of making the
decision to work together, they found the perfect place at Reeds Farm,
which was converted in just three months to become The Hummingbird
Centre!
Instinctively, Kellie and Ellie knew that, to make the Centre work, they needed to build a team of
like-minded individuals, whose focus was on quality teaching and
treatments.
They subsequently recruited a number of teachers and
therapists who embraced their own ideals and proceeded to open The Hummingbird Centre in
September 2010,
