At Stretch,
we teach Modified Pilates to those with back pain and following spinal
surgery, as research has shown us that retraining the deep abdominal and
spinal muscles such as Transversus Abdiominis and Lumbar Multifidus,
reduces the recurrence rate of lower back pain.
Modified Pilates is a programme of mat
based exercises designed by the Australian Institute of Physiotherapy
& Pilates (APPI) to rehabilitate people with back pain and other
injuries. Modified Pilates works on neutral lumbo-pelvic alignment,
activation of the key lumbo pelvic stabilising muscles, correct ribcage
and thoracic alignment, scapulo thoracic stabilisation and deep neck
flexor retraining to stabilise the cervical spine.
It also improves spinal mobility, postural awareness and flexibility of the trunk and lower limb muscles groups. It has helped many of our clients recover from back injuries and spinal surgery and is a safe and fun method of exercise, with the only side affects being a toned body, relaxation and improved posture!
We are experts in providing safe and effective ante and postnatal
physiotherapy and have helped many women with back pain, sacroiliac
joint (SIJ) problems and symphasis pubis dysfunction (SPD) go on to
enjoy their pregnancies and postnatal period. At Stretch you are in safe
hands as we only use treatments that are scientifically proven to work.
Following
a thorough assessment we will clearly explain your diagnosis and which
treatments may be most appropriate for your condition. We will also
liaise with your GP or Consultant if we feel that a medical review is
required.
During your first appointment our team will provide you
with your preferred treatment option and personalised advice and
exercises to help to manage your symptoms at home. We also offer ante
and postnatal Pilates in both one-to-one and small group sessions run by
the only fully qualified Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor in
Chelmsford. Please click on the link below to find out more about our
